Window seats, banquettes, stairways that include room for storage or display, and built-in desks are some of the built-in features that can make smaller spaces feel larger, as in a guest bedroom.
In this layout the traffic flow is circular, from the front door through the living room to the dining room to the breakfast area and family room and then back to the foyer. The kitchen connects to the garage through the utility/laundry.
Stairs are drawn as a series of rectangles usually with a direction arrow indicating whether the stairs travel up to the next higher floor or down. Where the stair rises 3 ft above the floor it is cut with a diagonal line. Stairs above the “cut line” are shown with dashed lines.
The dining room is becoming a dinosaur, but if it's still important for holiday gatherings, why not treat it as an alcove off the main living space, where it can add spaciousness even when not in use.
